It’s My Park Day activities are coordinated by local community groups, City Parks Foundation, and many divisions of the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, including Urban Park Rangers, Historic House Trust, and Recreation. Here’s a sampling of how you can get involved:

Clean up litter in parks, along shorelines, and greenstreets
Rake, mulch, plant bulbs, and care for tree pits
Paint benches, fencing, park houses, and comfort stations throughout playgrounds and parks
Participate in fun, free events for the whole family, including tennis lessons, face painting, historic house tours, nature walks, and more !

 

- Riverside Oval Greenstreet Park Community – Saturday, October 15 2011 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. FREE

On It’s My Park, join the Riverside Oval Association who will be cleaning up litter, planting bulbs and spreading mulch to get the site ready for winter.

 

- Convent Garden – Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. FREE

On It’s My Park Day, join the Convent Garden Community Association to help clean, rake, weed, and plant bulbs throughout the garden. Volunteers should enter the park at 151st Street and St. Nicholas Avenue.

 

-  Bennett Park – Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 12:00 p.m -2:00 p.m. FREE

Join us on It’s My Park Day Saturday 10/15 from 12-2PM to paint the park benches at the playground! If there’s time we could paint the building too !!

 

 

- Jackie Robinson Park (West 145th Street & Edgecombe Avenue, Manhattan) - Saturday,  October 15, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.1:00 p.m FREE

The Grass Roots Farmers Market for a cleanup and bulb planting day. Please bring your own gloves if possible.

 

- Harris Community Garden (West 153rd Street & St. Nicholas Avenue in Harris Garden) - Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 9:30 a.m 3:00 p.m.  FREE

On It’s My Park Day, join Harris Community Garden to help clean, rake, and plant bulbs. Please bring your own gloves if possible. Volunteers should enter the park at 153rd Street and St. Nicholas Avenue.

 

- J. Hood Wright Park (351 Fort Washington Avenue, Manhattan) - Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.1:00 p.m.  FREE

On It’s My Park Day, join the Friends of J. Hood Wright and Community Connections TimeBank in cleaning up J. Hood Wright and planting spring flowering bulbs.

 

- Inwood Hill Park – Saturday, October 15 & 22, 2011 at10:00 a.m.2:30 p.m. FREE

On It’s My Park Day, join Inwoof who will be coming out to Homer’s Run to clean their dog run and spread gravel. Please come out to the park to give this group a hand.

 

- Isham Park -Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.2:00 p.m. FREE

On It’s My Park Day, come out to Bruce’s Memorial Garden to help the Isham Restoration Program paint their shed and plant spring bulbs.

 

- Highbridge Park & Sherman Creek Park – Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m – 2:30 p.m. FREE

On It’s My Park Day, help the Friends of Sherman Creek and students from MS 319 clean-up and beautify Highbridge Park in the morning. Join the Friends at Sherman Creek Park in the afternoon to help spruce up tree pits and do more planting. Call Obed for more information.

 

- Fort Washington Park - Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. FREE

On It’s My Park Day, come out to the Rocky Run Dog Run to help the volunteers spread new woodchips in the run and beautify the surroundings by planting bulbs.

- Little Red Square - Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.1:00 p.m. FREE

Students from the Little Red School House and Elizabeth Irwin High School will be planting flower bulbs in tree pits, painting benches and cleaning up two park areas for Its My Park Day! Registration is now closed for this event.

On It’s My Park Day, join the Highbridge Canine Club and members of Community Connections TimeBank who will be cleaning the dog run and planting bulbs around the park

On It’s My Park Day, come out to Inwood to help the Rose Court Tenants Association and Project Post clean up street tree pits and plant bulbs for spring color.
